Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is a naturally occurring ingredient found in white willow bark. Its medicinal properties have been known for a long time, with salicylic acid being used for its effects on fever and pain.

Salicylic acid is the star active ingredient in oily skin care and in the treatment of acne due to its sebum-regulating, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and exfoliating action, which helps to keep the skin free of pimples and control the oiliness of the skin.

What are the benefits of salicylic acid?

Salicylic acid is an ingredient with several actions widely used in different skin conditions, the main one being the exfoliating action.

In psoriasis, salicylic acid reduces the thickness and roughness of psoriatic plaques. In ichthyosis, it helps to more effectively eliminate skin scales.

In acne treatment, salicylic acid works by reducing the appearance of pimples and blackheads and reducing acne marks.
Salicylic acid promotes surface exfoliation of the skin helping to correct wrinkles and hyperpigmentation spots.

How does salicylic acid work on acne?

Salicylic acid is a fat-soluble ingredient, which easily penetrates the skin pores. In the pores, salicylic acid releases the accumulated dead cells and unclogs the pores.
In addition, it has the ability to regulate the production of sebum by the sebaceous glands, regulating skin oil production.

Salicylic Acid exfoliates and promotes cell renewal, smoothing uneven skin texture and reducing acne marks. Moreover, its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties are helpful in controlling skin redness and inflammation and the appearance of pimples and blackheads.

How to use salicylic acid?

Salicylic acid is used in different types of skincare (face washes, creams, lotions, serums, masks and exfoliants, among others) at the highest concentration of 2%.

Skincare with salicylic acid can be used daily, twice a day or weekly, depending on the product and its purpose.
